Peter Naulls has released the fifth Firefox beta. The new version feels more like a conventional RISC OS application thanks to the icon bar icon and pop up menus. The browser also responds to URI requests from other applications.

Peter warns "this is a "Work in progress" release. It may not be suitable for general use, and there are known bugs in the "RISCOSification" that is in development in this version. This version is instead intended to demonstrated on-going development, and help find problems. Please don't report bugs in this version unless asked to."

Dictator for life Posts: 6828	It's the first version that's stayed loaded long enough (without bombing out) to actually load a page on my machine! I can actually see it working now! It's a little curious as to why certain things are slow - for instance typing a URL into the URL bar when there's a blank page below is treacle-like - but displaying pages is OK compared to other RISC OS browsers. It also takes a while to load - but then it does on my much more powerful Windows machines, so I don't think that's a problem with the port. I particularly like the way that the Windows menus at the top of the browser window are gone - replaced by a proper RISC OS menu system. In general (bearing in mind it's only a test version) I'm liking it.

Member Posts: 317	I was fortunate enough to be able to show the RISC OS version to Ben Goodger last week. This isn't an attempt to show off who I've met, but rather demonstrate at least a little wider recognition of the platform given a well-known piece of software existing on it.

Member Posts: 9	FF beta5 is quite a lot faster than the beta4 of FF. There it still is a WIP version, I got it vanished from my iconbar within 2 minutes, because FF b5 collapsed. I really hope PN is making the rendering of pages better, also when trying to put your own url in it, that the main pulldown window under the URL locator is overlapping the URL locator window, at least on my machine (RISC OS 4.02).
