A6 A75

AssemblySo, the A75 has finally been revealed by Advantage Six. The bright orange box with RISC OS inside is based on the Simtec EB7500ATX board, although it seems to be part of a range of "problem solver" machines so this may vary over time or variations.

As this is a range of bespoke machines, there's no set price, and it's a little difficult to write a definitive spec list. There are a range of options, and some other interesting tidbits: for instance, two units can be fitted side-by-side in a 1U rackmount enclosure - it's as wide as a single magazine page and just slightly taller than my USB mouse, according to an ad in Qercus. It's also the first machine to use Adjust as its default OS, or an as-yet-unnamed "RISC OS OEM". Linux is an option too. The orange colour is RAL2004, and the rugged steel case should withstand driving over it in your car, although I'm not sure who's going to be the first to test that!

I/O Options include
parallel, serial, USB, network, audio I/O, general purpose input, wake-on-LAN, internal integrity monitoring, watchdog timer

Power options include
Single voltage 5V, Single voltage 12V, Power-over-Ethernet, Mains, Internal battery, Internal UPS, Unregulated DC

Storage Options include
FLASH storage, DVD/CD/CDRW, 2.5" hard drive, Microdrive, USB external

An example given is a silent machine with no moving parts (i.e. flash storage). Put this together with the rugged case and a low voltage option that can be powered by batteries (charged by solar panels?) and you have a go-anywhere machine. Now if only it came in a laptop option...

Example builds will be shown at the Wakefield show, and a dedicated website is available here.

Sounds great! I just await the prices. With all the options I expect there will be a fair range.

As well as the range of options, the price will depend on the number of units ordered, I'm reliably informed. So if you want a good price, just find about 999 friends to buy one with you :)

We need a owner club thingy, so that people can get in contact with each other to buy in bulk.

Looks very interesting.

Embedded RISC OS Adjust as well, more markets for RISC OS is good news for the rest of us.
