RISCOS Ltd respond to RISC OS buyout (Updated)

Following the news about Castle's acquisition of RISC OS, we have obtained the following statement from Paul Middleton, Managing Director of RISC OS Ltd:
"A full statement will be made to the RISCOS Ltd Shareholders first followed by a Public Statement later next week.
In the meantime I would like to assure everyone that it is business as usual for RISCOS Ltd, Select, our AMS's and purchasers of RISC OS 4.
We are continuing with all our plans for Select. The final version of Select 3 will be released shortly, and we fully expect to be able to include some of the current Select features for Iyonix users in the next release.
If anyone has any specific questions, then I would be happy to answer them."
Many thanks to Paul for his quick reply; we will keep you fully updated with developments.

UPDATE (7/7/03): We also contacted RiscStation for a comment on the news; we got the following reply:

It's news to me. I have not been officially told by anybody.
I cannot see it having any short term effect. Long term we shall have to see.
Many thanks to RiscStation for their response.

Unregistered user Very much as I think we all suspected.

ROL have made useful contributions to the RISC OS scene, they still have stuff to do - and I imagine Castle will be concentrating more on 32bit stuff anyway (so would be quite pleased to let ROL handle the 26bit part of the market).

The statement that "...we fully expect to include some of the current Select features for Iyonix users in the next release" is highly significant.

PM has responded to the situation in a postive manner (nicely played man !).

Regards

Annraoi

If you can, and haven't already seen it, I throughly recommend viewing the ROL presentation MPEG we're hosting on drobe. It's very positive, and the QA section near the end answers stuff about the future of Select, which pretty much remains relevant after Castle's announcement.
