RISC OS magazines

The latest issue of the platform's longest running magazine, Acorn User, is out now following a slight production delay. It's encouraging to note that a higher proportion of its 23 editorial pages are in colour this month. The main article is a comprehensive account of the South West show; a review of the Artworks SVG module and the S-Base tutorial are worthwhile (but brief) reading. Beware the Belkin "advertorial" and coverage of American PC educational software. Acorn User are currently running a subscription competition.

Meanwhile Drobe have started the intensive job of publishing early editions of AU on the web; and disgruntled ex-Tau Press employee, Paul F Johnson, has threatened to publish a web page detailing what he believes is wrong with AU. (We thought we'd save Paul the trouble of bearing his grudges every time the magazine is mentioned.)

RISC OS Foundation has released the 11th issue of its CD magazine; it concentrates on the biggest story of the moment - the Iyonix. Produced entirely using Castle's new machine, it provides Iyonix news, reviews and benchmarks; and an excellent piece about the design of the RISC OS 5 icons. It's good to see that any problems that RISCOS Ltd have with Castle's licence for RISC OS 5 haven't biased their magazine's editorial in any way.

Acorn Publisher is into its ninth year of publication. A new series on the history of type begins in the latest issue, in which tips, tutorials and a case study of The Cumbria Bird Club can also be found. RISC World concludes its reproduction of the Archimedes Game Maker's Manual, and interviews the developers at eQ Labs. Archive magazine continues its popular mix of news, hints and tips, reviews and opinion - and you can try it for free.
