Castle to develop new ADFS

Cino ScreenshotCastle Technology Ltd, have joined forces with Spellings Computer Services Ltd to develop a new version of ADFS. The new version of ADFS will allow faster data transfer through the RISC OS filing system, ADFS, and consume less CPU resources.

Will Ling of Castle said "Of particular importance to Spellings Computer Services is that this new version of ADFS will allow the required flow of data from CD and DVD drives." This means that Cino will be able to play DVDs in real time.

Neil Spellings of Spellings Computers said "I am delighted to work with Castle to provide the first RISC OS DVD player. The work we are undertaking will free up a lot of valuable CPU resources which are needed for decrypting and decoding the video and audio data. The product is destined to be called Cino and should be available later this year".

Jack Lillingston added "this collaboration is an example of the large number ways that RISC OS receives input from a wide range of sources. We wish the Cino project all the best and know that this new version of ADFS will benefit all RISC OS users."

Hmm, didn't ROL announce at the last South East show that they were redoing ADFS too, or was that filecore ?

Obligatory Life of Brian quote.

BRIAN: Brothers! Brothers! We should be struggling together!
FRANCIS: We are! Ohh.

Woo! :)

ROL said something or other about switching to Unix style file names, but I don't think there was any mention of improving its efficiency, or any decisive decisions made.

Hmmm.

Does the new version of ADFS + new large case Iyonix with space for lots of large discs = RISC OS based file server?

Reading from what has been said this may well improve all applications (not just specifically Cino). Basically anything that now involves CD/DVD access will cause *less* of a performance hit than before.

Great news indeed ;)
