Twas the 'bone I think? Where DO you get your info, AW? I do play the trumpet. I can (physically) play the trombone, but not with any skill. I play with the bone, but that's another story. |

Why's that? Sax and guitar are both instruments that allow you to easily slide around between notes, quickly and in a manner well suited to jazz (and hiding feck-ups). |

Unregistered user | Yeah, sax is pretty easy as instruments go. I play some other instruments (but not anywhere near as well as sax) - piano, drums and guitar - all of which are bldy hard! |

How do you get all the pitches of a trumpet with only 3 stops/small number of stops? With difficulty. The word is ombochure (spelled wrong most probably). Actually, your explanation isn't bad. Three keys/valves = 8 combinations anyway. |

Unregistered user | No the frumpet has many notes. Combinations of valves produce small changes in pitch and a change in the lip-vibration (there's probably a technical term for that) produces large changes in pitch. The higher the note, the more rapidly your lips vibrate. [mentat] - a better explanation please? |

Unregistered user | Goddamn I hate Windows text selection - why does it think I want to select whole words. Yeah, well text selection in general far surpasses that of whinedoze. And you'll have to wait for !NetSurf for text selection in browsers Sorry. Erm. Yes I agree - you can do that on most instruments, can't you? If you can hide the f-ups and make them sound cool, you can con your audience into thinking you're really good - well, that's what I do, anywayYeah, but it's easier on sax than on trumpet. Okay, I'll agree with that. |

I guess so - in that case I have 'mastered it'. Gah, bldy Sax players. Actually, I have quite a few friends who play Sax. It seems to me that, as wind instruments go, Sax is one of the easiest to improvise with, simply due to the convenience (for impro purposes) of the fingering technique (WHAT?!). Guitar players also seem to have a ludicrous advantage in this area. |
