I didn't miss it. They give you the compiler and one level according to the latest version of PC Format. Hardly enough to create a complete game. The code is also more than likely based on DirectX which would give any person doing a port a few headaches. |

As far as I read, it's spread over 6 months and thought that there were other levels on the next issue's CD. Surely it's worth looking at the code to see if it uses DirectX. |

I got the latest PC Format to take a look - I can't believe people pay 5quid for this magazine - it may have a lot of pages but it makes Acorn User look like an absolute bargin for worthwhile content. Anyway there's very little in the way of source code - just an app to display a level file. Aside from the reliance on Borland libraries for the GUI the source code (what's there) doesn't seem too bad. However there is no code there for the game itself (so no clue as to whether it uses DirectX or not - I'd be really surprised if it didn't) Then again I've only spent about 15mins browsing through it so far. |

when was Xenon 2000 released???? - that would give a clue to whether it used DirectX or not, & also, What version of Windows was it written for??? -DOS=easy peasy Windows95 = Might be ok Win98/2k = ur screwed Question: WHY IS IT THAT THE BLOKE WHO WRITE LINUX DIDNT REALISE THAT NOT EVERYONE HAD T3 CONNECTIONS OR HIGHER???? |

Xenon2000 is brand new and it's not a commercial release. PC Format commissioned the Bitmap Brothers to do a 6 months series on how to write a game. They chose to update Xenon because of it's heritage and because it would be relatively simple for them to do it. I don't understand your distinction between Win95 and Win98. They're both Win9x kernels and both support DirectX. As for linux - well that's what CD-ROMs are for right? |

hmmm when win95 was out there was more of a chance that it would support DOS, whereas with W98 u would definately need DirectX Hmmmm CDs... i dont trust the Post - & it requires money ah well, only 262megs left now |

That page was last modified on 31 January 2005, so really it's only four years out of date, if indeed it is out of date at all - isn't the information (apart from perhaps the comment about putting up documentation and more sections in "the next few weeks") still relevant? Anyway, it's funny to think of what downloading a 12MB file meant when that page was first put online, compared to what a 12MB file means now - about ten seconds for some people... |
