It's a shame Darklands was never released isn't it?

When was that?
Are you sure we talking about the same game here?
I don't mean Dark Future either which AFAIK never got beyond proposals and blue-sheets in contrast to say, EMD, which almost reached the final stage except for a dearth of graphics artists being available.

Yeah both Darklands and Dark Future looked good.

Are you seriously telling me EMD won't see the light of day if so it's a damn shame it looked good, hell I'm starting to wonder if theirs a future for games on Risc OS.

Yes, it's serious but not hopeless.

Which one was Darklands and which one was Dark Future. One was a wargame, what was the other ?

Andrew, are you sure neither will see the light of day ?

Regards,

Max

I'm not certain that Darklands will not be released although the author has consistently made estimated release times which have been wrong. I was promised a demo. almost 2 years ago for example and I've only ever seen screenshots!

Dark Future looked extremely exciting but it appears it was just bravado and the author as far as I know has not been seen since on the platform and has decided not to answer the emails of people who are interested in something he felt deserved a full page in Acorn User.
I hope nothing serious has happened to either author but it seems to me that the above are blatant examples of broken promises.

I can't comment on whether EMD will see the light of day but I do know that the problem for EMD isn't the code...

EMD is terminally ill and Lee is right, it ain't a problem with code. The problem is with the lack (i.e. none) of graphics artists. This has also put in jeopardy other VOTI products.

As to Jeff's sentence about if there is a future to RO gaming, well I'm afraid that for the past few months the doubt in my mind is if there is a future in RO at all? I am seriously concerned that Pace have not mentioned anything further about RO and the fact that a certain person is still working at a certain head company.

The writings on the wall. I've had talks with numerous developers but all I have heard is empty promises filled with empty dates for something to happen.

My concern has been shown numerous times and no-one has done anything to answer the calls of the developers. I am almost sure that RO has now gone past the threshold of saviour. People who don't believe this is so and are wholly optimistic are blinded by their stupidities.

I have voiced my concerns to all the supreme contacts and nothing has changed. My stance remains that unless the management at ROL are overturned soon then you won't find certain products that are as yet unmentioned from the VOTI stable, how about a VRML 2 viewer for example. I have a semi-working version here but it won't be finished.

End of message.
