Lowering the tone since the dawn of time

...my wossname, Phone, and I thought try the forums on it.

Reading messages was no problem. However, when I tried posting I got an error. As far as I could make out (it was difficult to read) it said:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /virtual/www.iconbar.com/webpages/forums/includes/templates_c/N205/N2053232932/dbmessagepreview.php on line 25
I don't think I was logged in at the time (if that has any bearing) because I couldn't remember my access details (I was nowhere near any of my computers). I tried a few things (the most obvious guesses - when did I register with iconbar, and who was I either shagging (or who did I fancy) at the time? ;) )

I don't think you can post without being logged in, so I'm not sure how you could see the error at all :) I've probably buggered something up with all the recent "improvements", so I'll take a look.

I just get "No author set".

[fx: time passes]

I just tried it on my iMode phone and it does the same (i.e. "No author set"). What 'phone did you use? Was it repeatable? What page were you looking at/message were you replying to?

I might remove the post options if you're not logged in anyway.

It's a Nokia N70 & I'll try it again before hitting send on this.

I was reply to post number 76285 (testposts forum, thread 'mucho testing')

[tries again]

Yup. Exactly the same result.

If I have time later, I'll dig out my login details and see what happens if I try it logged in.

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /virtual/www.iconbar.com/webpages/forums/includes/templates_c/N205/N2053232932/db:messagepreview.php on line 25

Not sure, but I'm guessing ab_currentposter won't be set. But then again, it isn't on my 'phone either, and it doesn't go boom. Well, it does, but that's just the "content too big" errors because it's not expecting full html, despite telling the server it can handle html, xhtml, jpegs, whatever. And the navigation bar gettings squeezed so much that the links are vertical, not horizontal. And no cookie support, so I can never log in. But apart from that, works like a dream :|

However, I've just removed the posting links for people wot aren't logged in, seeing as they can't use them anyway.

Still worth seeing if you get an error when you are logged in on the 'phone though.

Makes sense. :)

Yeah - don't have time ATM; been in half an hour and gotta go out again, but I'll try it.

It doesn't really matter if it doesn't work - read only is useful enough on the phone when I'm sitting bored somewhere without a computer. I just thought I'd try it. :)

Well, it seems to let me login, which is a good start.

However, when I try to reply and I submit my post I'm presented with what looks like the preview message; ie the usual gubbins at the top, my message as it will appear, followed by the text box with my message for editing.

Interestingly, the 'usual gubbins at the top' includes the line 'Logged in as VinceH', but the display of my message says "Posted by profile.php?username= at 15:20, 19/7/2006" and under that (immediately before my actual message) says "Unregistered user";)

The "profile.php?username=" is a link, which should be my username (obviously) and clicking it should display my profile - instead, it tells me "there is no user with that username"

And, obviously (it would be in this thread) the post hasn't appeared.

I suspect the problem is with the phone, which I'm generally drawing the conclusion is crap anyway. :)

As an afterthought, I decided that if it posting gives what looks like the preview, I'll try previewing...

Doing that[1], it gets my details right (posted by VinceH instead of the link, and member instead of unreg. user) and now hitting post puts the proper details in - but still only appears to be previewing.

[1] May be a red herring, though - I went 'back' after following the profile.php link, and the phone actively asked for confirmation to re-submit the form; *that* may have made the difference. Either way, I can't post.

I'm guessing it's not handling cookies - either it doesn't work at all, or we're giving it a format it doesn't like. The latter is unlikely given the number of peeps able to log in, but not impossible.

My 'phone doesn't handle cookies, because I can't log in to GMail even using the mobile interface :(

BTW: I tried to design you a (non-)avatar :)
