Thanks, I think it must be the PASV thing although the option I've selected now is /disable/ use of PASV command. |

Yes, I've been finding that I need to turn passive mode off to get FTP working on the new server. |

Weird. When you say slow, do you mean slow to connect, or all the time? ________ Cheers, Rich. |

It won't go past 'negotiating'. |

What does "off or on" mean? :) PLus there's nothing about 'negotiating' in the ftp rfc... do you mean it gets past the USER and PASS..or what? I.e. post a log of the goings on. I get a successful connection: Resolving host name: www.duffell.riscos.me.uk Connecting Connection established 220 ProFTPD 1.2.9 Server (IconBar FTP server) [eve.onepointnought.com] USER ftpduf01 331 Password required for ftpduf01. You'll prbbably have to be more specific, i.e. post the log where it stops for a while. Otherwise confusion will prevail :) |

Nope... pasv mode is still slow, gets stuck at this point... In fact FTPc seems to have a 75 second timeout and appear to go to PORT mode if PASV fails. While it is trying I have a connection attempt to the server. tcp 0 0 192.168.1.28.4814 213.161.75.250.57729 SYN_SENT So it sounds like the firewall somewhere is dropping packets on the way to www.iconbar.com Resolving host name: www.duffell.riscos.me.uk Connecting Connection established 220 ProFTPD 1.2.9 Server (IconBar FTP server) [eve.onepointnought.com] USER ftpduf01 331 Password required for ftpduf01. OK, try FTP now with passive on. I've added the modules ip_conntrack_ftp and ip_nat_ftp to the firewall script, for the technically minded (or for me, if I have to do this again in the future ) ________ Cheers, Rich. |

Ooh... just VNC'd from my laptop at work to my home Windows file server, which VNC'd into my Risc PC, which passive FTP'd back to the web server which is back in the office, and the round trip was like a shit/shovel decoupling event. But then, there might be firewall holes for my ADSL connection that could account for this anyway, so it's a bit of a pointless if fun excercise. ________ Cheers, Rich. |

Yay! Of course, it'd help if someone hadn't moved the switch while I was working on the firewall. And it'd help more if the internal network interface was patched in with cable that hadn't had the clip sheered off. I got FTP working, only to find Samba crapped out for no apparent reason Oh well, everything working fine now. ________ Cheers, Rich. |
