Unregistered user | Yes. All of which will only work on the GBA. True, but how much work would be needed to port them to other ARM platforms, like ours? And how much work would be needed to persuade game houses to do the porting? |

Unregistered user | True, but how much work would be needed to port them to other ARM platforms, like ours? It's blindingly obvious - as much effort as porting any other game. Ok so the ARM code can be executed (on an appropriate machine - RISC OS ones won't be until we're fully 32bit) just like C code can be recompiled. However the GBA, like any other console, relies on custom hardware which would need to be emulated in some fashion (or all the calls replaced). It's no easier than porting a PC game written in C except that the CPU is slower.
Lots. The RISC OS games market probably isn't viable at the moment. It'll be interesting to see how well Tek does as it'll be a good yardstick. You only have to see at how many companies there aren't producing RISC OS games to see how bad the situation is. |

Unregistered user | The architecture of the GBA is far more than just an ARM chip as Lee says. It has facilities like the SNES for scaling/rotation/transparency it has a tuile based system, which is completely different to just writing to a buffer. There are other things as well... Then there are features of the processor that we don't have or can't use -> THUMB instructions, half word load/store. But all this is minor compared to how much any company would charge for the licences for each game -> probably more than most RISC OS companies make in a year... The RISC OS games market is virtually non-existant, very few people are buying games. However its a catch 22 situation... hopefully Wakefield will see more games releases than there have been for ages ;-) |

Unregistered user | Now that the Nintendo Gameboy Advance is here http://www.gameboy.com/gbadvance.html does this mean we will soon be flooded with 32-bit ARM games? |
