Unregistered user | Hmm, seems very tempting - although I'm still not 100% sure that the Phoebe case will take an NLX board without modifications (i.e. I have no idea if Acorn fiddled with the fixings...) Thanks for the info - I hadn't had any luck finding any manufacturers 'til now. |

Unregistered user | Apparently a standard AT power supply will fit in the case (CTA will sell them too!). I've asked on the comp.sys.acorn.hardware if anyone knows whether the case is standard or not, so I'll keep checking. Cheers, Stephen |

Unregistered user | I'm not sure how easy it is to get an NLX board with an AT psu connector on it, or if there are convertors. |

Unregistered user | Again this is strangely on topic but does anyone know where to get riser cards for these freaky motherboards??? |

Unregistered user | I'm not sure, - don't they tend to be supplied with them? On another - related - topic, does anyone know of anywhere that sells slot-loading CDROM drives? (I've found a slot loading DVD drive, but I'm not going to shell out 108ukp for something that I'm not going to use) |

Unregistered user | I know how you feel - I just upgraded my PC with a new case and processor - its only through me being old enough to get a decent amount of cash per month that Im able to keep up! Ridiculous! Mind you I want to be able to run Max Payne and Halo (and Sibelius twice as fast, natch ). Did take me a few days to get it running without problems though - Acorns have always worked the moment you press the button - a huge plus for people who don't want to mess with things. Windows breaks itself far too easily! But Half Life doesn't have an Acorn Native version. *sigh* Anyway, back to Phoebe - it's not going to be cheap to get a machine inside her!! These NLX motherboards are scarce and expensive - so unfair!! Ahhh well, there always Christmas and I can rob money from relatives then I'm sure! |

Unregistered user | Not yet, - mainly due to lack of funds (and a nasty credit card bill). Hopefully I'll get round to doing something before Christmas. Although with the RISC OS 2000 show coming up soon, I'll probably be even more broke... |

In response to the original post question: Try and flog the case design to any PC manufacturer and hope all future PCs go the way of "Acorn". Hmm, OK, silly post, but this forum was getting over-steved and I wanted to make a post to test my recently edited user profile (...cheers Tim - I presume) R.O.R. ! |

Unregistered user | There's also three boards from Asus but they are very difficult to actually BUY! http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/nlx.htm ....is the specification from Intel, they may have dimensions on there somewhere and everything looks pretty similar to me, but as you say it would be just like Acorn to change something very very slightly. The case is interesting enough, today I realised that the bottom part was hinged and you can slide the motherboard in and out on the runners. What I want to know is whether there is enough space for the riser card below the PSU, and whether the PSU bay is big enough for an ATX one, as half the NLX boards I found have ATX connectors. It IS, even with all these problems, a fantastic case, just a shame an Acorn can't be put in too easily. A Linux box for my Uni course next year it will have to be!! (If you go to Nottingham, you might see me there, with my 75cm green Juno case and bright yellow Pheobe as well!) Is there anyone on here that knows whether Pheobe is a 100% genuine NLX form factor case, or is it going to be a rather attractive door stop??!? I for one am not really going to shell out £120 odd for a motherboard that *might* not fit, and I don't know enough about electronics to modify it in any way.... in fact I'd be scared. What form factor (if any) is the Imago from Millipede??? 242 |

Unregistered user | Nah, - the more Steves the better (we could then go on to take over the world... ) Actually, I haven't been as frequent a poster here as I'd like, - mainly due to work/pub/being-too-lazy-to-reply. I intend to change that (probably by doing no work :-p) |

Unregistered user | Gigabyte Motherboards aer good quality and I found a few from them, a celeron one would be your best bet as there are no PIII or Slot/SocketA ones and you can put PIIs in them with the addition of an adapter, as well as being able to go all the way up to a celeron 800 before you have to overclock to get faster. Insight.com/uk does the Gigabyte board, but it's £140ish . But you would get to see Pheobe alive, albeit running Linux not Risc OS Oh, and that board comes with onboard sound too and graphics, not sure about an AGP slot though... |

Unregistered user | Sorry that I've got too similar a forum name to you, I tried this one first 'cos I use it for IRC and stuff and didn't think! Oh well, shouldn't be too confusing :D I can reregister if you want tho, haven't got my obligatory 1000 posts just yet :E And cheers for the advice about form factor for a PC, I couldn't think what I would need as the PCI slots are vertical , and although I'd love an acorn in there putting a RiscPC in would be a waste, and I don't know whether the Imago would fit properly... Steve *You really need to get more smileys on here * |

Unregistered user | I was about to post something similar myself - then I saw your post, and wonder for a moment if I already had There are several different things you could do - depending on the amount of time/money/technical expertise you've got: 1) Move an existing RiscPC motherboard and 2) Build an Intel/AMD machine into the case. 3) Put it on a shelf, and look at it I'm going with (2) for the moment, if I can find a board for the thing, - hopefully I'll build a Linux server.
