with all the ROR-ing over at Rambles column, maybe it's time to poll if people are interested in getting ROS t-shirts..
Of course, any ideas (slogans, gfx) would be nice too..
Maybe we can convince thinkgeek to make ROS stuff... |

Ugh. That's chronic. T-shirts. Hmm... well... interesting.
As long as it doesn't involve squirrels or cows (I really don't get it) then we might survive such an experience with a shred of cred. :) Maybe a happy serene person with a computer, or a happy person taking a RO computer for a walk. "RISC OS - man's best friend". OK, well, maybe not. ROR! |

Except you'd have to be nerdy to get it :) OK, so I got it, but I had to think about it. I tell you, put some shades on a RO computer and people will never think you're nerdy again (see posts above for relevant slogan). Cool computer = hot performance (RO).
Hot computer = stuffy/sleepy/s**t performance (Windoze). Eh? |

I usually buy T-shirts from www.thinkgeek.com, and the more obscure the better! :) However, I've started looking into T-shirts (and mousemats), so I *might* try to sort something out. Here's the questions I sent to the TIB sysadmin list, see what you think: 1. Designs. ROR (RISC OS Rules)? RISC OS Ltd? IconBar? Acorn Arcade?
RISCOS.org cute fluffy squirrels? ofla...ofla...ofla...ofla...?
2. Implementation. Do the design in ArtWorks, get them printed at a print
shop? Can we get someone else to do everything after the design stage
(e.g. APDL? Desktop Projects?)? Or does someone have too much time on
their hands and access to screen printing equipment? :)
3. Sizes. XL only, to reduce wastage?
4. Sales. Wait for enough pre-orders (cheques only) to make it worthwile
(as with the Adminspotting T-Shirt I'm waiting for :) ?
5. Funds. Do we make a profit? Do with give some/all of the profits to
worthy causes? Name a worthy cause that would do something useful with
the money (preferably RISC OS related, not a charity or religion!).
6. Motivation. Why bother? Do you think this is a good idea or not? Obviously if you're reading this, 6 is probably a forgone conclusion. Rich. |

1. just 1 design would be sufficient, and it should be about riscos, not Iconbar, Arcade, or other 'propriety' items.. it's the ROS we want to promote, not the 'sidesteps' (not that IB is not cool :))
2. Hmmm, a printed t-shirt is not very nice (but cheaper) .. big gfx result in stiff t-shirt.. and start to wear out after washing a couple of times... an embroidered thingy would be better (but much more expensive)
3. hey, XXL should be the default! :) (just wash it too hot to get smaller sizes .. hehe)
4. well, looking above, there's not much interest in geekware :( .. I think it needs co-operation with others to get larger numbers (only 6 replies to the poll... hum)
5. TCR could do with some financing :) But I guess betting on playing even is more realistic, than making profit.

Maybe the poll should be renamed or restarted with a more interesting name - thus to generate more "interest" ? Maybe: "Really cool RISC OS promo ideas" or something similar? Maybe some RISC related web URLs on the T-shirt?? Could have Iconbar, Arcade etc? Or maybe even a specific URL for a one page website which tells people about RISC OS (with links, of course) ?? --

Six replies to this poll now, sure, but we haven't hit the busy times for casual browsers. RISC OS is, of course, (c) RISC OS Ltd. and Pace, so I don't want to limit the discussion to just RISC OS itself just for now. After all, they should be producing their own T-shirts! :) |
