Were any of the classic old school RPG's ever released on the arch? EOB (above) or Dungeon master? |

HoMM2 was. I'm sure there were a couple of others; there are some Archie games databases around the internet, you should look through those. |

HOMM is't a true RPG it's more of a turn based strategy game, also it needs a RISC PC... i'm on an A5000 |

Short answer, no. Heimdall was about as close as we got. And, erm, HeroQuest Oh, and The Dungeon from 4th D. I looked forward to that one for ages, and it ended up quite a disappointment. I *believe* one of the "bedroom" game companies (the one behind the steam-train railway/delivery strategy game, I forget its name) did a dungeon crawler, but I'm not sure if it ever saw the light of day. It was advertised in the back of the manual for the steam train game. Supposedly Cadaver (Bitmap Bros) was ported, which would technically be one of ours now, but I never saw a release version, and have no clue who did it or where the code would be |

Heimdall was about as close as we got.Surely if you're counting Heimdall, then you have to add in similar isometric games such as Carnage Inc, and possibly also ports like Syndicate? |

Though i'd not really class them as rpg's (though syndicate has rocket propelled grenades...) Also Syndicate needs more ram than my original A5000 25mhz has... |

Well, Heimdall had a party of characters, and separate combat screens against fantasy-style characters, and level-ups too, if memory serves (I could be wrong on the latter). The puzzle+fighting system is more akin to what people think of as regards RPGs. Each party member had different stats. I never played Carnage Inc, so I'm afraid I can't comment on that one. Is it any good? I realise now that I should mention Pandora's Box, which whilst not an RPG, is a great fantasy adventure. Syndicate, whilst having RPG elements (character development, party of toons), is more an arcade-strat title, really. |

I have heimdall, it is odd that for a fairly "geeky" computer the Arch had almost no RPG game son it. |

There were quite a few angband ports and the like - if those float your boat. However, let's cut to the chase. RPGs were why I had a PC card, used it, and why PCSound Pro exists (existed). That's a little extreme (PCSPro also did MIDI stuff), but basically the PC card was great for Might and Magics, Eye of the Beholders and the like. By the way, we have a pile of A7000s which you could have very cheap, so there's no need to restrict yourself to RISC OS 3.1 [Edited by arawnsley at 15:50, 13/9/2010] |

Well, Heimdall had a party of charactersHeimdall was a cracking game once you got into it. I was hooked on it for a while, although without a manual it took me ages to figure out how to do all the complex stuff. I never played Carnage Inc, so I'm afraid I can't comment on that one. Is it any good?I seem to recall that I enjoyed it - basically Heimdall but with a cyborg. I'm afraid my fuzzy mind has lost the details but it's one I wouldn't mind playing again though. [...] whilst not an RPGI think we're suffering from different interpretations of what an "RPG" actually is. I would classify Heimdall, Carnage Inc, and even HoMM as RPGs (the latter may be turn-based but that's merely a distinction of gameplay mechanics). The OP seems to have a much stricter personal definition and if I got some examples of corresponding Wintel games that he considers to be proper RPGs, I could maybe think of an Arc equivalent. |

I liked Heimdall, and is a role playing game, i didn't disagree with this one. It's a good game pretty hard, but it's probably about 15 years since i played it last! I'm refering to more dungeon crawlers, Ultima underworld, Might and magic and Crystal Dragon. Being older now, these appeal more to me than the others. |

Don't be so smug; it's not that clear. It's a link to a user's profile in an "edited" message, not an obvious link to a shop, so no wonder if the poster doesn't get it instantly. Here's a thought. Yeah, I must admit, there sure isn't any indication that they sell second hand goods. Perhaps their website needs updating? Don't be so smugSo now encouragement is frowned upon? |

Thanks blind moose...Andrew didn't actually say they were on the site - just that they had some. I suspect he meant 'get in touch, and we can discuss spec and price...' or something, in which case the page you really want is their contact page. |

Sorry for any confusion, yes, I did mean "we've got some". We don't advertise the older machines on the website, because generally that's where companies like CJE and APDL operate, and therefore I prefer not to clutter the market (and website!) with such things. However, like any long-time RISC OS company, we have parts and machines looking for homes. Indeed, we've seen a rise in this since we started selling RISCubes, as people trade in older machines. In this case, an A7000 was traded in this week, and it was on my mind, and it occurred to me that it would help the guy in question - seemed daft for him to be on a A5k when we have A7ks and RPCs sitting around looking for loving homes!
