My computer laughs in the face of those minimum specs.

However I'm also still laughing in the face of the Crysis, so probably won't be picking up Warhead.

My machine can handle Crysis with everything on max due to a bunch of circumstances that saw me end up with a new(ish) quad core 'rig', so I'm not worried. And I'm buying it on Steam, so it's only about £20 ($29.99 + VAT).

What makes me laugh is it takes 15GB to install, but comes on a 4GB(?) DVD[*]. And if you install off that DVD, you'll probably still need it in the drive to play the game. So why the need for 15GB disc space?

[*] hopefully it's less than 4GB, as I have to download it now over an Virgin cable connection. If you download more than 350MB in a day, they cut your speed in half. Fuckers.

Yeah, that is a bit silly. Unless they have some particularly impressive compression to fit it on the DVD (although why they can't just decompress the data when loading the level I don't know. Maybe there's a lot of stuff they already do to data during loading and it would just end up being too slow for people with crap computers?)

And if you install off that DVD, you'll probably still need it in the drive to play the game.
That's because everyone is an evil pirates!!!

So why the need for 15GB disc space?
Because DVDs are fucking slow compared to hard discs tongue

See: All the PS3/360 fanboys alternately whining about mandatory installs and (for games that don't have mandatory installs) whining about slow texture/geometry streaming when playing games. Or all the developers whining about the lack of space on DVDs to fit all the massive textures and models they want to include in the game.

15G ?!!?

Complete amateurs.

I installed two bits of software last week that /each/ came to 33G.

One came on 6 DVDs, and the other came on 9.

Neither were games (they were two new software synths to add to my collection).
