When those big remote control Daleks first came out (the new Who, gold versions that is), not only couldn't I find one for love nor money, the money part was sixty quid. Now, my local Tescos have a huge display of the black versions for £11.25. I could almost have bought three and kept two pristine to sell on eBay in 10 years time, but I was there for the weekly shop, and it's hard enough getting on the bus with four bags of shopping at the best of times. Still, I'm sure some of you geek type blog owners will steal the idea. ________ Cheers, Rich. |

I have a radio control Dalek, which I bought from Makro a couple of years back. I don't remember it being £60 quid, though - I thought I paid around £35 for it. (Or are there different versions? IIRC mine's gold, about 12inches high, and has various phrases it says while you whizz it around chasing the dogs. Not that I've done that in a long time - it's somewhere in the darker recesses of my TARDIS-like cupboard...) If they can be had for £11.25 now, I might buy a few more - so thanks for the heads-up. (Now, where is my nearest Tescos?) |

If you can get ones which all work on the same frequency you could have your own Dalek army. |

That'd be great fun! Dozens of (little) Daleks rolling out in formation... ...better still if whatever seed is used to select a phrase "at random" is synchronised, so they all say the same thing at the same time. |

IIRC mine's gold, about 12inches high, and has various phrases it says while you whizz it around chasing the dogsWhen it first came out, before Christmas, it was £59.99 - and about as easy to buy as hens teeth. I finally found one at Debenhams. Then come Christmas day, I found out why they were so rare - they didn't work, so the manufacturers stopped making v1.0. I got my money back after Christmas, went to Forbidden Planet, and got the updated version for £49.99. The even older versions - based on the Doctor Who films (silver and blue?) were even more expensive, and didn't do as much. IIRC there was no speech. Although that sounds really lame, so maybe it had speech, just not the extra buttons for individual phrases. Since then, obviously the price has continued to drop... ________ Cheers, Rich. |

Mine's gold - I don't know what version it is though, but I can say that it definitely DOES work, and it was quite early on I bought it, though slightly later than I initially thought... It wasn't long after they first came out, because AFAICR, my brother's girlfriend wanted one for their son for a Chrimbo present, and - as you say - they were hard to get (and I've just been fixing her PC, so while there she confirmed - near enough £60 ATT). When I first spotted them in Makro I rang her to see if she wanted me to get one for her and she told me she'd managed to get one. I didn't actually buy mine then - I waited until after Christmas to see if they'd come down in price. (I can't remember if they did or not - whether that £35 was the pre-xmas price, unchanged, or the result of a drop. Or, for that matter, if I'm remembering that price correctly!) Incidentally, I've just got home and realised it's not in the cupboard after all - it's on the top of a bedroom unit in plain sight! |

Oh yeah, the tentacle-head voice changer thing is there too at £9.99. I think they were quite popular must-haves when they first came out. ________ Cheers, Rich. |

Actually IIRC they have two different frequencies, so you can have two armies battle each otherIf you can get ones which all work on the same frequency you could have your own Dalek army. ________ Cheers, Rich. |
