The pilot for this is ace, you should watch it if you can. It'll probably be repeated on BBC3 this weekend. |

I appear to have missed this entire thread originally, so missed the pilot - I've seen the brief trailer thing the Beeb have been running, though. It appears to clash with the new series of Supernatural on ITV2 - but a quick glance shows both to be repeated (Being Human repeated quite a lot!) so I'll be able to give it a watch. |

There is of course an alternative, if you want to watch the pilot. |

There's not necessarily much point in watching the pilot - the series isn't a continuation of the pilot, and the changes to the cast/characters/plot mean that some of the things that happen in the pilot probably won't ever happen in the series (e.g. I think the whole vampires-taking-over-the-world subplot is gone) But on the other hand, since these changes have probably ruined the show, watching the pilot may actually be a good idea, since it'll be a show you'll enjoy watching instead of one you won't. There is of course an alternative, if you want to watch the pilot.I don't download tv programmes, movies, music, etc, unless I'm doing so absolutely legally. Okay, in this instance it's a programme which has been broadcast, so it's arguably only a small difference between downloading off teh interwebs and my having recorded it off air for timeshift purposes - but it's enough of one that I won't do it. When it boils down to it, I take the view that if I'm willing to ignore other people's copyrights, then I would be a hypocrite if I object when other people ignore mine. Of course, there are shades of grey and dodgily drawn lines in the sand, and different people draw them in slightly different places - but that's where my line is drawn and I've (almost1) no intention of crossing it. 1. I have said I might eventually resort to doing exactly that in the case of the second season of one show (Jeremiah), which has never been broadcast on this side of the puddle and nor has it seen an official DVD release. The bar stewards buried the show, and are basically just sitting on it, so there's no other way I can see it. But I'll give it another few years yet before I finally give up hope. |

It's from the BBC - it's not like they'll be missing out on any advertising revenue if you download it instead of watching it live/recording it/11-month-timeshifting it. Unless there was an advert for some limited edition Two Pints merchandise sandwiched in there somewhere. Or you're some dodgy TV-license dodger. There is of course an alternative, if you want to watch the pilot.I don't download tv programmes, movies, music, etc, unless I'm doing so absolutely legally. As noted earlier, it was available free to watch from the BBC iPlayer thing - but they blocked my IP because it was forrin! Maybe I'm connecting from outside the UK, but for many years I was a UK-resident license payer, so I see no moral dilemma in downloading this pilot episode. Plus all of what said. |

Just watched the pilot - not connected to the series, maybe, but it was pretty good. On a related-but-unrelated note, has anybody ever seen Ultraviolet? |

On a related-but-unrelated note, has anybody ever seen Ultraviolet?Yes. I thought it was quite good, but Channel 4 had a different point of view. If memory serves, the people that made it sold the idea to them as a detective series - so they weren't best pleased with what they got, which is why it never progressed beyond the first season. |

Yep. It was kind of a detective series, as far as I recall - it was CSI with vampires. Guys in labs extracting the active ingredients from garlic and holy water and stuff, and putting it into bullets and SuperSoakers. Still, as far as bizarre cancelled series go, it's right up there with Space: Above and Beyond, which had a grand influence on my in my younger days. |

I'm a bit worried now about changes from the pilot. Why commission a series on the basis of something you're not going to use? But I'm still hopeful. I was concerned about each change of Dr or companion in Dr Who, for example, but happy with them when they'd arrived. Ultraviolet was great. I may be mistaken, but didn't it predate the modern fighting vampire with new scientifically designed weapons genre? (Hmm... wikipedia suggests the first Blade film was released in the same year - 1998) Edit: unsmileyed [Edited by Loris at 18:24, 27/1/2009] |

I'm a bit worried now about changes from the pilot. Why commission a series on the basis of something you're not going to use?Perfectly normal. Most series - especially fantasy/sci-fi type series - tend to vary (quite wildly in some cases) from the pilot: cast don't stay on, plot details change, test audience feedback suggests new directions, personality clashes, logic holes, etc. Nothing unusual. Although in this case, I thought the pilot had lots of promise - I'll be interested to see how the series pans out. |

I had to check Wikipedia to see who'd been replaced. As I suspected, the werewolf was the same, and the vampire & ghost were different. The changes are a shame (the original vampire was fantastically louche) but I guess I'll get used to 'em. The plot seems pretty much the same as far as I can remember; it seems to follow from the pilot pretty well. [Edited by Loris at 18:26, 27/1/2009] |

My wife is amazingly proficient at recognising people; I on the other hand... am not. Although I was pleased to see the devout christian from Larkrise to Candleford as a villain with glowing green eyes in No Heroics last night. I love the feeling of anachronism you get when an actor plays something in a period drama as well as modern stuff/sf/fantasy. If it wasn't for my wife liking the period stuff, I wouldn't know about that. |

No HeroicsI've never heard of it, but just looked it up. It looks fun. Shame I didn't know about it from the outset, but it's only a sitcom so at least I can start watching it mid-series. |

IIRC there's a DVD of series 1 available. (I think it's series 1 on ITV1 at the moment). Probably a good idea to watch an episode first in any case. |

Going back to the subject of Being Human, I said I wasn't all that taken with the first episode but I'd give it another chance - well I actually then proceeded to forget all about it. However, I've watched the last couple of episodes, and finding it much more enjoyable than that first ep. I wish I'd remembered it sooner. |

Looks like the story arc kicks in next week. I'm comfortable with the new cast now - can't really imagine what it would be like with the old lot. |

Episode 3 (last week)Oh - I only missed one episode, then. I honestly thought it was a few weeks between the first episode, and the next one I watched - which was last week. Cool. |
