But if I keep writing at my current level, the finished thing could easily be 10,000 words :o
A four parter, then :P

When reallly what I'm after is 1,000 words that have the effect of saying "Watch LEXX" 500 times.
In that case, yeah, I'd stop... and have a rethink. You can always do the bigger article later.

I need the DVDs...

Yeah, I probably should simplify it somewhat. I probably need to watch most of the episodes again, then I can pick the right bits to mention (And get my facts straight).

I need the DVDs...
Yes, you do. Amongst many others. Please hurry up and get some money, so I don't have to feel bad about recommending things for you to buy :P

Keep recommending stuff... because me and Tanya went into Music Zone the other day - and bought £80 of DVDs :|

It was the first time we'd bought any for ages, though. Next time we go in I'll look for the stuff you've mentioned :)

Maybe I should do per-season reviews. There's only four of them, and they're all pretty different from one another, and it shouldn't be too hard to fit all the interesting bits of a season into an article. Plus it will allow me to spread out my rewatching of the series a bit, instead of watching it almost all in one go and doing a massive brain dump like I did with GITS :o

Yay! Monies.

I think my current list of recommendations for you stand at (in no particular order):

1. Lexx. The first season would probably make the most sense to buy first, and should be readily available. Second season seems to be out of production, so you'll have to look on ebay/amazon marketplace. Third season boxset was still available last I checked - and fourth season never made it to DVD in the UK, so you'll have to wait for it to be repeated again on TV or import the American release.
2. Ghibli. I can't really name one which you'd like, because they're all very different from each other. Just don't be afraid to choose one which you think isn't made with you in mind. And remember to play it safe by watching it in Japanese with subtitles :P
3. GITS. As my overly-long article proved there are many differences between the different versions, so again it's a bit hard to recommend one. The first film if you're unsure - the manga if you'd like to read - the second film if you're interested in experiments in film-making rather than a deep storyline - the 1st season boxset if you're fairly certain you'll like it - and the second season volumes if you're feeling really rich :P
4. Some other stuff, I guess. The above three would give you a wide range of settings, styles and stories - I haven't yet found a fourth that I'd consider recommending to an outsider. But for what it's worth, the contenders so far (I.e. the only other movie-type stuff I've really watched recently, but stuff that just so happens to be good) are Battle Royale 1 & 2 (Apart from being good movies there's some interesting political/humanitarian motiviation behind them), and Akira (similar setting to GITS, but a somewhat more fantastical story).

Not entirely sure where my travels will take me next. Season 2 of GITS would be nice, but I'd rather buy the boxset than fork out on the individual volumes. Plus I need to hurry up and get my hands on the second half of Lexx season 2.

Oh, and you can also download MCoG if you're nostalgic about 80's children's TV :)

And don't expect me to recommend any mainstream western stuff, because chances are you'd have already seen (or are planning to see) most/all of the 'classic' western films anyway. And also I have practically no idea of your interests beyond UK comedy/sci-fi :o

Importing from Overpuddle frequently works out cheaper, IME!

I've yet to get the first and fourth seasons. I managed to get seasons 2 and 3 a couple of years back for IIRC around 20 quid each, from a Canadian e-tailer who have since gone down the pan AFAIK.

However, I have seen S2 in stock on some other R1 suppliers, though it tends to be quite expensive now. S3 I'm pretty sure I've seen at a half decent price in some parts but I can't remember where. I haven't really been paying attention to the S2/3 prices because I have them - only noticed in passing while looking for good prices on S1/4. (And as yet haven't noticed any that appeal!)

There's not actually a config setting for that :P

To be honest, loads of things about the system are broken - but I can't be arsed fixing them seeing as we're moving to Drupal.

Can you get filmfour on whatever obscure digital TV network you're subscribed to? Because they're showing Pom Poko at 15:00 this sunday.

Even if Pom Poko is a bit too 'different' for you, it looks like they're showing different Ghibli films every couple of weeks or so. So if you watch the listings close enough you may be able to spot one which makes more sense to non-Japanese :)

Or if you can't get filmfour, you should just go out and buy all the DVD's I've recommended. RIGHT NOW.

Same goes for everyone else :P

Don't forget!!!

Also, one of the two LEXX volumes arrived on friday. Conveniently it's the one I need to watch next, but inconveniently I've been spending my time working on the super secret stuff instead of watching it.

That means I'm only missing recordings of episodes 4.04-4.09 and 4.11. Which is a shame, because there were some really good ones in there :( But at least I have seen them :)
