http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wfaa/latestnews/stories/wfaa07018_wz_wiiporn.2073d3ef.htmlGood grief, you mean parents may have to keep an eye on what their children are doing? Besides, you can disable the web browser in the parental controls. It would be a good idea if you could set up a whitelist of sites that don't need consent, and prevent the rest, or something like that. |

Use the facilities offered by the router to filter/block! And if the router doesn't provide such facilities, get a better one. |

"It's very upsetting something this popular—a kid game—can go that direction so quickly," Schroeder said.Yeah, the Wii is clearly just aimed at kids. Clearly. Jesus, it's a browser. It's just the same as a normal puter. Why are people up in arms? |

I have Excite Truck! It's very fun! The game mechanic of getting stars for performing stunts and crashing into things (cars, mainly) is much better than just racing to win. Also, it was ten quid off in Morrisons. Yay! However: |

I bought a component cable today! I'm up in Nottingham, so I'll let you know how I get on. It's the official Nintendo one, so I'll let you know if I have problems with the Virtual Console or not, . |

Excite Truck's two player mode is a bit pooey. The frame rate sucks, there's no computer controlled drivers, and I win far too easily |

Right, got the component cable. The bad news is that it doesn't work with the Virtual Console. The good news is... fucking hell, I didn't expect it to make things look *this* good! Not only does it benefit from being 480p, but I've been thinking my LCD telly was utter shit since we got it - horrible motion blur. It turns out that it's just very unforgiving of poor-quality composite signals - as soon as you feed it a nice component one, then it gives utterly glorious picture quality. Zelda looks utterly *stunning* - it was a blurry badly-coloured mess before. So now all I need to do is get component cables for the DVD player, and Telewest box, and I can begin enjoying beautiful picture quality for everything... |

Right, got the component cable. The bad news is that it doesn't work with the Virtual Console.Delete the save files and try again - that got it working for me. Seems to last okay providing you switch the console off to quit the game instead of pressing the home button. I wish Nintendo would sort it out though. Their response (somewhere on the internets, which I can't find right now) was that changing AV cables is the only (and in their minds, a workable) solution. Zelda looks utterly *stunning* - it was a blurry badly-coloured mess before.^ This. I was almost tempted to start playing again from scratch once I'd got it, just so I could see everything how it should be. |

Ah, yes, deleting the save game files sorts it out. But as you say, that's just really irritating - if it works first time, it shouldn't screw up just because you pause or save it. That's just a software bug, and one that should be sorted out with a firmware update. I was tempted to start Zelda again myself... but I'm consoling myself with the thought that I'll be amazed every time I revisit somewhere now! I'm actually glad I waited until now to get the cable - I didn't know the difference would be so vast, or I would have got it before - but this way, I got all the wonderment of how great the Wii was, and now I've got it all over again with the picture quality. The News channel is also hugely improved now - it was slightly difficult to read before, but now the text is crisp and sharp. Opera hasn't really improved much though, sadly. |

An RGB scart cable gives an excelent picture. The difference between component and RGB scart is hardly noticable. What VC games do you have? I've got: Comix Zone Gunstar Heroes Ristar Sonic the Hedgehog Toejam and Earl Still waiting for Streets of Rage. |

Only VC games I've got are Sonic 1, the original Zelda, and Bomberman '93. I'd be buying far more of them if they were a bit cheaper. |

I've only got the one so far (Gunstar Heroes). That's awesome! Have you played it in cooperative? I'd buy more if and when:There hasn't really been much released for the Wii since launch. The good games are starting to come out now though, with Sonic and the Secret Rings next week. b) They cost lessI don't think they're that bad, really. You can get about 7 Mega Drive or SNES games for the price of a Wii game. c) They work with the component cableI wouldn't bother with it, tbh. There aren't any compatibility problems with RGB scart. Anyway, I've read that it's only a problem with certain TVs because they don't like receiving 50Hz signals over component cables. d) I have a WavebirdYeah, the Wiimote and Classic controller are crap for VC type games. I'm hoping a third party will release a decent controller for VC games. The Saturn pad was one of the best digital pads ever and it has buttons in all the right places for the SNES and Mega Drive. SEGA released it for the PS2 and a USB one, so, I'm hopeing they'll release it for the Wii. e) I knew whether or not they suckedIGN VC reviews And for the Mega Drive: http://www.videogamecritic.net/gen.htm http://www.sega-16.com/Reviews%20Genesis.php |
