Unregistered user I'm currently 18 but I'll be 19 all too soon. To all you (golden?) oldies out there, I've always considered being 18 past it, so I'm worried that I'm heading for retirement at a rapid rate... arrgh, the worries of legal drinking... monkey

No no no. You can NOT be past it whilst still in your teens, it's simply a physical impossibility!

Unregistered user Sorry, the boards a bit slow again so I thought I'd post this question grin

I myself am 18, and whether this is melodramatic or not, I was wondering how many of you are a bit past it. With such a relatively small userbase it is important to have lots of young(ish) people. Just an opinion. Please don't call me ageist, I'm not trying to be, I'm just thinking of topics of conversation. And there's nothing wrong with being old, it seems a lot easier to me... but you aren't around to buy the computers as long wink

(Sorry wink)

Unregistered user Yes I was a bit bored and also wanted the thread to get some results! I didn't take much time though, 5-6 mins in total.

I see I forgot to put the smiley after the poll suggestion though smile

Oi - careful! Don't stomp on the concept of advertising to the masses in the media - it'll have to happen one day. Although it's certainly not something "we" can consider - it's up to those with money (at stake) and we all know who they are.

You're right about the bragging, I think. As long as we don't get silly (never!) about it - and have something to brag with... (where's that RiscStation Laptop...and no silly names!)

monkey monkey monkey monkey monkey

<joking> I hear that if I put enough monkeys on this board it'll get a mention in the national press! </joking>

(That's my excuse!)

Ooops, I was attempting to defend this silly post (which gave me hours of enjoyment - ahem!) without further enraging the over 30's.

Please note that I said it has something to do with a new user base etc etc. Of course every age group (and computer literacy category and a myrriad of other socioeconomic issues) have equally as much to do with it.

However, by the time I'm 50 or whatever, society will have crumbled due to a lack of oil. Just think, no plastic to make RiscPC cases from ...!!! :O

monkey

Anyway, the question was "how old are you", not "bog off if you're over the hill" innit!

And ... relax. grin

Every board needs a silly thread...just ask [steve]

Meeeow! (don't 'spose you'd care to mention which twenty somethings?) wink

In defence of this thread, DOB may have little to do with "youngness" but it does have (something) to do with a new and (at least potentially) expanding and sustainable user base, or lack thereof. Since that was the purpose of this thread (to find out one way or another) I wonder if these 20 odd posts have answered [steve]'s curiosity? Eh? Eh?

cool

Unregistered user What a very silly thread, but just for the record......

I feel the same now as I did 15 years ago. I play 5-a-side and can run faster than those half my age. How old was Linford when he retired as a world class sprinter !! how old is Steve Redgrave !! What on earth does age have to do with sitting on your bum in front of a computer screen. Age is only problem for 2 groups of people:

1. People who think the year of your birth is related to how young you are.
2. Ageists (easily idenitifed cos they say "I'm not an ageist"wink.

Oops nearly forgot I'm 42 and clearly considerably younger than some twenty somethings here smile

Unregistered user Well if 30 is past it then at 32 I must be a bit past past it smile

Course all it means is that I've been in the scene a bit longer
than you under 25s...

That HCI comment made me laugh tongue
(but it's a good point!)

I'm 20 BTW, and have absolutely NO disposable income wink

However, I expect I'll still find a way to get a RiscStation Laptop in the not too distant future... then we can go about actively expanding the user base innit smile

Unregistered user I'm 23 (nearly 24).

I may be over the hill but I bet I've got more disposable income that could be used supporting the market than you 8P

...now if only there was something worth buying!!

Then again I don't expect to be buying RISC OS computers when I'm 60. If I am then something has gone seriously wrong in HCI research cool
