I blew up the monitor (shorted out) whilst trying to shoehorn it into the lego case.

Wouldn't it be better to have the keyboard nearer the front edge? The lego is going to be very uncomfortable to move your wrists over as you type. |

It's an A7000.
About the keyboard, it's pretty much stuck in that place due to the network card behind it and the HD in front of it. However I can add flat studless tiles to the places where the wrists will rest, which should improve it. |

When you close it, it'll be a bugger to get open again - you know how hard those flat pieces are to prise apart. But that could be the ultimate laptop security feature!

This is rather fab. I hope you got this chap to help build it: I'm sure classic-space red spaceman will make an appearance sooner or later.
Did you run out of blue bricks for the bottom left hand corner? I was being lazy , the sides of the laptop are made out of two wide blue blocks, the different colours there are where it becomes 1 wide to fit the HD in.
The colours and presentation of it are likely to change a lot, because blue sides and grey tops look rather dull But functionality first. |

Does it weigh 5 tons or is it not too bad ? Are you planning pn a CD/DVD drive as well ? It's not too bad weight wise, but perhaps not something you'd want to carry in a bag all day
As for the CD/DVD, I'd love too (and even have a spare slimline DVD drive) but there just isn't space in the case at the moment.
I'm considering replacing the motherboard (the A7000) as it's really far too large to let me squeeze any more things into the case. At the moment I'm investigating a thin-client motherboard (Wyse/HP/etc) as many of them can be made to run some of the more frugal Linux distributions. [1]
(Before anyone says "Baglebroad, Baglebroad!", a) it's 100+ quid b) I've not any HDMI capable (that I'm willing to dismantle) monitors.)

Speaking of portable things, I wonder how big an FPGA you'd need to reimplement an ARM250 (or ARM7500). It could be kinda fun to have a portable Arc, or a mini desktop machine for die-hard fanatics, kinda like Sprow's MiniB. Of course I'm not sure whether ARM would be too happy about you reimplementing their (obsolete) designs without their permission. |
