Iwata Asks

Apologies to those of you who have seen it before, but I have to mention Iwata Asks - a series of interviews conducted by Satoru Iwata, the President of Nintendo, with the various Wii development teams. And it's not just the usual corporate bullshit - it's incredibly in-depth, and mentions a lot of the difficulties encountered along the way. Well worth a read.

Mind you, what I find fascinating about the Wii is that the corporate line - "fun for gamers and non-gamers alike!!!!!1111" - is actually true. The last time my girlfriend played a computer game was back in the early 90s - but now we play together on the Wii practically every day. Which is fantastic.

Nintendo's cunning Wiis

WiiA couple of months have passed since the Wii was released in Europe. Even with some smashing launch games, such as Wii Sports, Twilight Princess and Rayman Raving Rabbids, the innovative 'channels' interface fell a little short of expectations beyond the Miis and Wii Shop. Nintendo's promise was of new channels designed to appeal to traditionally non-game playing family members, and to give everybody a compelling reason to regularly turn on the machine. Those channels have arrived - the most recent (and strange) appeared out of the blue earlier this week. Here's my review.

Wii Oh My...

TanyaI have to be honest; I'm not much of a gamer. The last time I played games on a regular basis was on my breeze block of a Game Boy, and my last console was the Atari 3600. John's frequent ramblings about Final Fantasy and Grand Theft Auto meant nothing to me, and any attempt he made to try and introduce me to PS2 gaming was met with sighs of indifference. Gaming for me ended with Tetris, and no game I saw after 1992 ever ignited the merest flicker of interest.

Then we got our Wii.
